Houston In-Home Care: Direct Support Caregivers

A direct support caregiver provides one-on-one in-home care to meet a variety of clients' needs. With the help of a direct support professional (DSP), home care assistance provides an array of services that will improve the quality of life for your loved one.

Chrysalis Spectrum provides a variety of direct support services in the Houston TX area. When your loved one needs in-home care, we provide them with the dignity and comfort they deserve.

Flexible Care that Fits Your Needs

In-home caregivers are available on an as-needed basis. Our direct support caregivers are able to provide support with the basic activities of everyday life. They also have the training and experience necessary to support those living with conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. If your loved one is returning home from the hospital or a rehab facility, a caregiver can provide support throughout the transition to ease the process.

Direct support caregivers are rigorously screened for experience and are passionate about providing the care others need. At Chrysalis Spectrum, our caregivers develop relationships with their clients to ensure that they are providing the highest quality of care possible to your loved ones.

Direct Support Care Services

An in-home caregiver is able to provide direct support to your loved one to ease the difficulties of daily life. Whether your loved one requires aid with mobility, nutrition, or hygiene, we will work with them to ensure that their quality of life never wanes. Below are a few examples of services that our caregivers offer.

Bathing and Hygiene

Our direct support caregiver is specially trained in bathing, personal hygiene, and other personal care services. We focus on preserving the dignity, comfort, and health of each client.

Dressing & Grooming

A direct support caregiver can assist with morning and bedtime routines, including helping with dressing and grooming. Dressing includes helping individuals select the right type of seasonal clothes to wear. Grooming may consist of helping with combing the hair, shaving, and skincare.

We realize that many individuals may find it challenging to lift their arms during routine activities.

Walking and Mobility

We recognize that our clients can benefit from regular movement both physically and mentally. Our in-home caregiver considers the physical limitations and comfort of each client. We assess their ability to walk, climb stairs, and get in and out of vehicles.

After evaluating their needs and preferences, our caregiver will assist them through routine movements and help to increase their mobility.

Transfer and Posture

A care provider can help their clients with regular movement around the home or around town. Additionally, our direct support caregiver concentrates on making sure each client receives help with range of motion. This helps with digestion and circulation while decreasing the stiffness that comes from being in one position all day.

Our care providers are also available to help clients get in and out of bed or go to the bathroom. Care managers also make sure that sedentary clients receive help with movement activities every two hours.

Continence and Toileting Care

At Chrysalis Spectrum, our direct support caregivers are trained and experienced in assisting with urinary and bowel care. We understand how important it is for clients to stay clean, dry, and avoid retaining moisture. We train our in-home caregivers to assist with these routines with a focus on retaining our clients’ dignity.

Special Diets and Meal Preparation

We work with clients, families, and nutrition professionals to plan and prepare meals according to the specific needs of our clients. This can include shopping for special diets and working to fix favorite dishes just right. Examples of special diets might include diabetes, low-sodium, low-trans fat, etc.

Our direct support caregiver is also trained in preparing fresh meals for clients. We want to ensure that clients receive the nutrients that are needed to maintain a healthy weight and digestive system.

Eating Assistance

Some of our clients may have physical and emotional challenges in the ability to perform basic functions. Our direct support caregivers provide exceptional sensitivity, care, and safety for clients with these challenges.

An in-home care provider will ensure that clients stay hydrated. We understand the risk of UTI's and how dehydration can play a role in the client's health.

Oral Hygiene

Our direct support caregivers encourage clients to brush, rinse, and clean dentures in the morning, after every meal, and at bedtime. We understand the vital role oral hygiene plays in heart disease.
